Residential
Shanghai, China
2018
The multigenerational families who will inhabit these Jing’an townhouses shape a different understanding of luxury within the fabric of contemporary Shanghai. Rather than relying on spectacle, each residence is conceived as a long-term home, a place built to evolve with the people who live in it and to remain meaningful across generations. The design embraces a minimal, disciplined language, allowing the true character of the space to emerge through proportion, materiality, and light.
Natural light becomes the anchor of the experience, moving across surfaces and revealing the subtlety of the finest finishes. Construction detailing is handled with quiet precision so the integrity of each junction, transition, and surface communicates a sense of permanence. This approach values depth over decoration, placing attention on the elements that genuinely shape how a home feels and functions over time.
The result is an environment where essentialism becomes a form of refinement. In a city defined by rapid change, these townhouses offer a counterpoint: calm, clarity, and a commitment to quality that stands the test of time. Another way to understand the project is as a redefinition of legacy, where the true measure of luxury lies not in accumulation but in the creation of spaces that remain resonant, adaptable, and deeply human as the family story unfolds.
