For IKEA Canada's first-ever Open House event, Mason Studio highlighted design at home through a larger-than-life installation. Incorporating the essence of IKEA's playful spirit and iconic products, the exhibition was designed to ignite discovery, interaction, and connection.

Celebrating over 80 years of IKEA's designs and innovation, Mason Studio reimagined one of the brand’s most iconic and coveted storage products, the KALLAX shelving series. Designed over 40 years ago by in-house Product Developer, Börje Lindgren, the legacy product is brought to a dramatic scale that blends the lines between storage and contemporary design while featuring the IKEA brand’s iconic blue and yellow colours.

As visitors enter our studio via The Gallery, they are invited to partake in playful experiences within the larger-than-life sculptures, reshaping the mundane into a whimsical journey. A floor-level KALLAX hosts a mix-and-match memory game, where visitors are encouraged to open the units to discover an array of toys to everyday objects. The blue KALLAX-constructed chair is upright against The Gallery wall. One can walk through the frames and look up for a reflective moment, as mirrors are adhered to each grid on the bottom of the seat.

Hosted on-site at the Cultural Hub at Mason Studio, the exhibition serves as an exploration of our dedication to reimagining everyday objects and spaces, with the aim of bringing joy to people's lives.
